Lewis Carl Dunk (born November 21, 1991 in Brighton ) is an English football player . The central defender has been under contract with the Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion since 2010 and has been an England international since November 2018 .

Career

Lewis Dunk went through all the youth teams of his home club Brighton & Hove Albion . After strong performances as captain of the U-18, he signed a two-year professional contract with Brighton & Hove on April 30, 2010. The next day, Dunk made his professional debut for the Seagulls when he was in the starting line-up in the 0-0 draw at Milton Keynes Dons . In his second season 2010/11 he came on eight missions, in which Brighton as champions of promotion to the Football League Championship succeeded. In the following season 2011/12 Dunk played more and more often in the starting lineup due to injuries to the nominal defender and came to 36 missions. After he was only used sporadically in the following season, Dunk was awarded on October 4, 2013 for a month to the third division Bristol City to collect match practice. In Bristol he went on two missions and even after his return he mainly sat on the bench in Brighton.

In the 2014/15 season , Dunk had his breakthrough, in which he was also allowed to wear the captain's armband at times. On August 30, the center- back scored both goals in Brighton 's 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic . He scored seven goals in 44 appearances. Dunk became an undisputed regular in his position. He was also an integral part of Brighton's promotion team in the 2017/18 season .
