Career
The midfielder Groß learned to play soccer at the Mannheim club VfL Neckarau , where his father, who was formerly a soccer player Stephan Groß , was also a youth coach at times. In 2007, Groß moved to TSG Hoffenheim together with six other VfL youth players, including Marco Terrazzino and Manuel Gulde , and played for them in the newly founded U17 Bundesliga in the 2007/08 season . The Hoffenheim team reached the final of the German youth championship, in which Groß contributed a goal to the 6: 4 victory over Borussia Dortmund . He then moved up to the U19 team of the club, in which he recommended himself for the German U18 selection , for which he made his debut on November 18, 2008 and scored his first goal two days later on his second appearance. At the beginning of 2009, Groß was temporarily training with Hoffenheim's Bundesliga team in the men's division, for which he also played in individual friendly matches. In the competitive game, he initially continued to play for the youth team in the 2008/09 season of the U19 Bundesliga .
On the 30th match day of the Bundesliga season 2008/09 , played on May 2, 2009, he came on for the first time in the top German division when he came on in the final phase of the 4-0 defeat of his team against VfL Wolfsburg . Groß also played in the Bundesliga on the following four match days. In 2009/10 he only played one game in the Bundesliga for the TSG licensed team and was mainly used again in the youth team, which won the club cup in the 2009/10 final against Hertha BSC . At the beginning of the 2010/11 season , Groß was no longer part of the Bundesliga squad of TSG Hoffenheim and instead became part of the reserve team that played in the regional league in 2010/11 .
He moved on January 28, 2011 together with Marco Terrazzino to the second division club Karlsruher SC . In his first competitive game for KSC, the 2-1 away win at FSV Frankfurt on February 20, 2011, Groß scored his first goal for Karlsruhe. After appearances in the reserve team of the KSC, Groß made 22 appearances in the second division squad in the 2011/12 season.
After the descent of KSC in the summer of 2012, he left the club and joined FC Ingolstadt 04 , with which he signed a two-year contract. In 2014 the contract period was extended to 2016. Groß became a regular player at FC Ingolstadt and contributed to the Ingolstadt team's promotion to the 1st Bundesliga in the 2014/15 season with seven goals and 23 assists. In the following season he scored the first home goal for Ingolstadt in a 2-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday 8 with his first Bundesliga goal, which initiated the first Bundesliga home win for the club.
After FC Ingolstadt's relegation from the Bundesliga in 2017, Groß joined the English Premier League promoted Brighton & Hove Albion . For this he made his debut in the top English division on August 12, 2017 in the 2-0 defeat against Manchester City . With his 1-0 winning goal on May 4, 2018 (37th matchday) in the home game against Manchester United , he ensured the relegation of his team ahead of schedule.
