Aaron Anthony Connolly (born January 28, 2000 in Galway ) is an Irish football player who is under contract with Brighton & Hove Albion in the English Premier League . The striker joined Ireland in October 2019 .
Career
society
Connolly began playing football at the age of eleven for Mervue United , an amateur club near his hometown of Oranmore . In summer 2016 he moved to the U18 team of the English club Brighton & Hove Albion . Soon he was promoted to the U23 and made a strong impression there too. On August 22, 2017, he made his debut for the first team in a 1-0 home win against FC Barnet in the EFL Cup , when he came on for Tomer Hemed in the 76th minute of the game . This use remained his only one in this season with the A-team, while he scored nine goals in 18 league games with the U23.
In the following season, 2018 719, he improved his goalscoring rate and scored a total of 11 times in 15 Premier League 2 games by mid-January. In the EFL Trophy 2018/19 he scored five goals in the three group matches. On January 31, 2019, Connolly signed a 3-1 / 2 year contract with the Seagulls . On the same day, he was loaned to third division club Luton Town for the remainder of the 2018/19 season. However, due to a thigh injury, he didn't join the Hatters until April 2019 . He made his debut on April 13 (42nd matchday) in the 3-1 away defeat by Charlton Athletic when he was substituted on for Harry Cornick in the second half . On the last day of the game he came to a brief assignment and then left Luton Town at the end of the season.
On August 27, 2019, he played his second professional appearance for Brighton & Hove Albion, when he was on the field for the entire game and also scored a goal in the 2-1 away win against Bristol Rovers in the EFL Cup. He made his Premier League debut three days later when he came on as a substitute in the 4-0 away defeat by Manchester City . On October 5, 2019, he scored a brace in his Premier League starting eleven in a 3-0 home win against Tottenham Hotspur .
National team
In 2016 and 2017, Aaron Connolly played six qualifying matches for the U17 European Championship for the Irish U17 national team , in which he scored seven goals. Then he also took part in the finals in Croatia , where he remained in four games without a goal.
With the U21 he took part in the Toulon tournament in June 2019 . In the 4-1 opening win against the Chinese selection , he scored once and provided a template.
On October 12, 2019 Aaron Connolly made his debut in the senior team when he at 0: 0 draw against Georgia in the qualification for the European Championship in 2020 in the 79 minutes for James Collins came off the bench.
