Luton Town (officially: Luton Town Football Club , short: Luton Town FC or Luton Town FC or LTFC for short ) - also known as The Hatters ( German Die Hutmacher ) - is an English football club from Luton . For the 2019/20 season he is playing in the second-rate EFL Championship . The club colors are white and black.
society
The club was founded as Luton Town Football Club in 1885 when Wanderers FC Luton and Excelsior FC Luton merged. As early as 1897, the club was accepted into the Football League for the first time , but missed re-election by the other members of the league in 1900. The return to paid football followed in 1920.
The home games have been played at Kenilworth Stadium since 1905, which today has a capacity of around 10,000 spectators. The capacity used to be significantly larger. The record attendance was achieved on March 4, 1959 in the FA Cup against FC Blackpool with 30,069 spectators.
In July 2008, Luton set an extremely sad record: for illegal financial transactions in the past, some of which had even threatened the existence of the club, the Football Association put the club down with a record 30 points as a burden for the 2008/09 season. Initially, only ten points were deducted, but the FA increased it to a drastic 30 points for violating the Bankruptcy Conditions of the Football League . This mortgage turned out to be too heavy for the team, so that relegation from the Football League to the Conference National could not be avoided. For the first time in 89 years, the club was no longer represented in the Football League.
