Richard Money (born October 13, 1955 in Lowestoft , Waveney , Suffolk ) is a former English football player who now works as a coach.

Career

Money played from 1973 for Scunthorpe United in the Football League Fourth Division . In 1977 the defender moved to Fulham in the Second Division . When the club relegated to the third division in 1980, he moved to the reigning English champions Liverpool FC in the First Division , but could not prevail in the following two years and was briefly awarded to Derby County in 1981 . As the English champion, he said goodbye in 1982 towards first division promoted Luton Town . In 1983 he moved on to Portsmouth FC and let his career fade away between 1985 and 1990 at his hometown club Scunthorpe United in the fourth division.

Initially, Money worked as a youth coach at Aston Villa after retiring . In January 1993 he took over the coaching position at Scunthorpe United, which he held until the summer of 1994. Later he was responsible for youth work at Coventry City before he took over the Swedish first division club AIK in 2003 . In his first season he led the club to fifth place in the table, but when the team could not convince in preparation for the 2004 season and started the round without a win, he resigned after the third match day. He then took over the second division Västerås SK at the end of May . In 2005 he went to Australia for Newcastle United Jets , but returned to Walsall FC after a year in England . In April 2008 he resigned from his coaching position there.

In June 2008, Money left the dugout and went to Newcastle United as head of the youth academy . There he earned a good reputation, but only stayed in office until October of the following year, when his former playing station Luton Town recruited him as a new coach. With the team from Kenilworth Road , which was relegated to non-league football for the first time in 89 years , he played for promotion to Football League Two . Although he reached second place in the Football Conference behind Stevenage FC with the team , in the subsequent promotion round he missed direct resurgence after two semi-final defeats against York City . In March 2011, Money and Luton parted amicably in third place in the table. His successor was his previous assistant coach Gary Brabin .
