The Fotbollsallsvenskan 2004 was the 80th season of the top Swedish football league .
The championship was played between April 3 and October 30, 2004. At the end of the season, Malmö FF led the league and won the club's 15th championship title. As a direct relegated team, the last two teams from AIK and Trelleborgs FF had to relegate . In the relegation, Örgryte IS was third from bottom , but was able to prevail against Assyriska Föreningen . In addition, Örebro SK 's license was revoked. Instead of the club, Assyriska was allowed to participate in the 2005 season after the club had failed in the relegation to ÖIS.
After ÖIS had used too many non-EU foreigners in the away game against GIF Sundsvall , the Swedish Football Association decided to re- score the game. Instead of a 1-1 tie, the game was rated 3-0 goals and a victory for GIF. This change had no effect on ÖIS, GIF Sundsvall climbed from eighth to seventh place.

Relegation
The third-placed Superettan plays in the relegation against the third-bottom Allsvenskan. Örgryte IS prevailed against Assyriska thanks to the away goals rule . The relegation was meaningless because of the license withdrawal and the associated forced relegation to the Superettan of Örebro SK, Assyriska was also allowed to play as the loser of the relegation in the Fotbollsallsvenskan 2005 . The games took place on November 3 and 7, 2004.
