Fotbollsallsvenskan 1971

The Fotbollsallsvenskan 1972 was the 48th season of the highest Swedish football league .

After the league had comprised twelve teams since it was founded in 1924, the league was last played with this number of clubs in 1972. For the 1973 season , the championship was increased by two clubs to 14 teams. This number was retained until the 2007 season before the league was increased again. Therefore in 1972 only the bottom of the table had to relegate to Division 2 .

Last year's cup winner Åtvidabergs FF celebrated the Swedish championship for the first time in 1972, after the club had only been first class again since the 1968 season . Last place went to climber Halmstads BK , who only got two wins this season and 14 goals, and was relegated straight away.
