The 1986 Fotbollsallsvenskan was the 62nd season of the top Swedish football league . Between April 19 and October 5, 1986, the twelve top division teams competed in regular time in a round-trip leg, before the top four teams in cup mode, also in two-legged matches, until November 1 in a final round, the Swedish Championship played off.
Season course
The team from Malmö FF , supervised by Roy Hodgson , was placed at the top of the table for the regular season, as in the previous year. Only in the duel against IK Brage on the seventh match day did the team leave the pitch as a loser. Last year's finalist IFK Göteborg was relegated to second place. Behind the third-placed AIK , the season was evenly balanced - there were four points between fourth place and first relegation rank at the end of the season.
IFK Norrköping saved themselves in the championship finals despite a 0-1 home defeat against Kalmar FF due to the better goal difference in front of the tied competitor Halmstads BK . Östers IF and Hammarby IF missed the leap to fourth place with a 0-0 draw on the last matchday in a direct duel, IK Brage with a defeat against AIK and last year's champions Örgryte IS with a 2-0 draw at Halmstads BK.
In the semi-finals of the final round, the away goals rule had to decide. Malmö FF and AIK then met in the final. After AIK won the home game 1-0, Malmö FF won the second leg with a 5-2 win. The team around Ingemar Erlandsson , Jan Möller , Jonas Thern , Leif Engqvist , Magnus Andersson and Hans Borg won the Von Rosens Cup .
Even before the last match day, Kalmar FF and newly promoted Djurgårdens IF , who each left with home wins in the second-rate Division 1, were relegated.
