← Fotbollsallsvenskan 2007 | |
The Fotbollsallsvenskan 2008 was the 84th season of the top Swedish football league . The season began on March 30 of that year and ended on November 9, 2008.
At the end of the season Kalmar FF was able to secure the Swedish championship title for the first time. Behind them, IF Elfsborg , IFK Göteborg and Helsingborgs IF moved into the UEFA Europa League , the successor to the UEFA Cup , with IFK Göteborg as cup winners only having to intervene in the third qualifying round. The three newly promoted Ljungskile SK , GIF Sundsvall and IFK Norrköping found themselves in the relegation battle. The last two ultimately had to relegate directly, while Ljungskile SK occupied the relegation place. Due to the away goals rule , the club had to relegate after a 0-0 away draw at IF Brommapojkarna and a 1-1 draw in their own place.
background
In December 2006 the Svenska Fotbollförbundet decided to increase the league from the 2008 season, so that for the first time in the history of the Allsvenskan 16 teams played for the Swedish championship title. Otherwise nothing changed in the mode.
