David Elm (born January 10, 1983 in Broakulla , Kalmar län ) is a Swedish football player . The striker , who was Swedish champions once with Kalmar FF and IF Elfsborg , is the brother of national team players Rasmus and Viktor Elm .

Career

Breakthrough in Sweden

Elm played for Johansfors IF and Emmaboda IS in his youth . In 2004 he made his debut alongside his younger brother Viktor for Falkenbergs FF in the Superettan . There the striker established himself as a regular player and after ten goals in the 2006 season he followed his brother to Kalmar FF , where his other brother was already active with Rasmus.

In the Allsvenskan Elm was initially only a supplementary player and initially only came on short appearances when he was substituted on for the last minutes of the game. On matchday 13, July 11, 2007, he was in the 2-0 home win against Hammarby IF in Fredriksskans for the first time in the starting line-up, but was replaced at halftime by Daniel Petersson . He had to wait until September 16, 2007 for his goal debut in the Swedish House of Lords before he scored the equalizer in the 2-2 draw against GAIS in the final minute after the preparatory work of his brother Rasmus. As a result, he was able to establish himself in the starting XI and also stood at the side of his brothers on the field at the cup final against IFK Göteborg on September 27 . A 3-0 win after goals from two-time goalscorers César Santin and Patrik Ingelsten was the first title win of his career.

In the 2008 season Elm had finally established himself as a regular and contributed with seven goals in 27 games to win the Lennart Johansson Cup for the Swedish champions. In the cup final after the end of the season, he came on as a substitute from the 79th minute, but suffered a defeat on penalties against IFK Göteborg . In the following season he also made 17 league appearances as a regular by the end of August.

Moved abroad and returned to Sweden

Shortly before the end of the transfer window in summer 2009, Elm left his home country. For an unpublished transfer fee , which the press estimated at £ 500,000 , he moved to the Premier League , where he signed a one-year contract with Fulham FC . Until his debut in the English top division, he had to wait until January 2010, when he came on as a substitute for Bobby Zamora in the 2-0 away defeat by Tottenham Hotspur . Then he was used irregularly, but he convinced Roy Hodgson of his skills. In March he signed a new two-year contract. After Hodgson left the club at the end of the season, Elm did not come under the new coach Mark Hughes to the train and was usually not even in the team on match days.

In January 2011 Elm finally returned to Sweden and signed a five-year contract with IF Elfsborg . In an interview he gave family reasons in particular, which led him to prefer the long-term offer to an offer from his former club Kalmar FF. While he wavered between the starting line-up and bench, he finished third with Elfsborg in the Allsvenskan 2011 and qualified for the European Cup. In the following season he did not prevail despite a coach change from Magnus Haglund to Jörgen Lennartsson before the start of the season , but he won the second championship of his career alongside Jon Jönsson , Lasse Nilsson , Andreas Klarström and Stefan Ishizaki .

Until the beginning of the transfer period in the summer of 2013, Elm only made nine appearances as a substitute, then he turned his back on IF Elfsborg in August and joined his old club Kalmar FF. There he signed a long-term contract until the end of 2016. By the end of the season he scored six goals in eleven games, placing the club fourth and fourth in the table. a. behind the cup winner IFK Göteborg and thus moved into the European Cup.
