Magnus Haglund (born April 15, 1973 in Halmstad ) is a former Swedish football player who now works as a coach . With IF Elfsborg he won the Lennart Johansson Cup once for the Swedish national champions.

Career

Haglund started playing football at Halmstads BK when he was seven . There he went through the youth teams before he was promoted to the men's team as the third goalkeeper in the early 1990s. In 1992 he moved to the third division club Karlslunds IF before joining the local amateur club IK Sturehov after a season due to his training as a sports teacher at the Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan in Örebro . In 1994 he moved to the United States to study at Tri-State University . With the university soccer team he was elected as a scholar athlete in the Second Team All-American of the NAIA in 1995 .

Haglund took over his first coaching position in 1998 when he was in charge of the women's team at Stafsinge IF . After two seasons he briefly returned to Halmstads BK, where he was responsible for player training. In 2000 he accepted an offer from fourth division Laholms FK . With the club he won the season Sydvästra Götaland before IFK Värnamo and thus led the club into the third division. With the newcomer he achieved fourth place behind Ängelholms FF , Ystads IF and Helsingborg Södra . After the repetition of the result in the 2003 season, he had attracted higher class attention.

After the departure of Anders Grönhagen , the first division club IF Elfsborg signed Haglund before the Allsvenskan season in 2004 as a successor. In the Allsvenskan he finished in the middle of the table in the first two years. In the 2006 season he led the team around team captain Anders Svensson , Stefan Ishizaki , Daniel Alexandersson and Jari Ilola to the fifth championship in club history 45 years after the last title win. On March 31 of the following year he won the next title with the club through a 1-0 win after a goal by James Keene over cup winners Helsingborgs IF with the first ever Swedish Supercup . In the summer he joined the club in qualifying for the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League , where after successes against the Northern Irish club Linfield FC and the Hungarian champions Debreceni Vasutas SC, the Spanish team Valencia CF with wins in both games as too high a hurdle proved.

In the following years Haglund IF established Elfsborg in the front division. After the runner-up behind Kalmar FF in the 2008 season, the club extended its contract until the end of 2012. Nevertheless, he was often associated with foreign clubs as a result. In the years that followed, he and his team were always among the favorites for the championship title. He regularly moved into the UEFA Europa League with her . Shortly after the end of the 2011 season , in which he had occupied third place in the table behind champions Helsingborgs IF and AIK , he announced his departure from the club in order to look for a new challenge after eight years as chief coach.

In November 2011, the press reported Haglund's engagement with the Norwegian club Lillestrøm SK . He signed a two-year contract with the club competing in the Tippeligaen . He kept the team he coached around players like Bjørn Helge Riise , Fredrik Stoor , Pálmi Rafn Pálmason and Johan Andersson with places in the lower midfield in the top division, after which the club extended its expiring contract for another year with an option to one additional extension. However, the coach did not make use of this option and announced his departure from the Norwegian club at the end of the season in October 2014.

In mid-November 2014 Haglund signed a four-year contract with his former club IF Elfsborg, where he inherited the late Klas Ingesson and the subsequent interim coach Janne Mian .
