Ängelholms Fotbollsföreningen is a Swedish football club from Ängelholm .

history

Ängelholms FF was created in 1976 from the merger of Ängelholms IF and Skörpinge GIF .

Ängelholms IF

The history of Ängelholms FF goes back to 1905. At that time, Ängelholms Idrottsförening was founded. In 1932, the team first appeared in national football when they were promoted to the third-class Division 3 Sydsvenska and already two years later made it to the Division 2 Södra . In 1937, this first guest appearance in Sweden's second division ended as a ninth place in the table on a relegation zone. However, they returned two years later, with the team relegated directly with just one win of the season. With this, the team said goodbye to higher-class football. Only in the 1950s and 1960s could Ängelholms IF as an elevator team between the third and fourth league draw some attention again, but established itself towards the end of the decade in the fourth division, where the club played until the merger.

Skörpinge GIF

Skörpinge GIF was founded in 1950 and developed into local competition for Ängelholms IF over the next two decades. In the 1969 season, the two teams met in Division 4 Skåne Nordvästra for the first time in a competitive game and Skörpinge GIF was able to place itself several times as Ängelholm's best team in front of their local rivals in the years that followed.

After the merger

Flying visit to the third division (1976–1981)

In the season 1976, the first season after the merger, the team behind Gunnarstorps IF as runner-up in Division 4 Skåne Nordvästra missed promotion to the third division. After a third place in the following season, the team was promoted to fourth division championship in 1978.

For Ängelholms FF it went straight away against relegation, which was achieved in the first year thanks to the better goal difference against Lunds SK . After a seventh place with four points ahead of the relegation places, in 1981, the penultimate class could no longer be held.

In the no man's land of the league pyramid (1982-2000)

In the following seasons, the team could only gain places in midfield, only in 1986 the first place was played out. However, since a league reform took place in Sweden, they came into division 3, but remained fourth class. Here, however, they missed relegation and were relegated to fifth division.

In the 1990s, Ängelholms FF oscillated between fourth and fifth level. At the end of the decade, the team established itself in the top group of the fourth division and in 2000 managed to return to third division as champions of Division 3 Södra Götaland .

Between second and third division (2001–)

In the third division, Ängelholms FF knew how to surprise and managed to win the season with twelve wins and four draws in 22 games this season. In the promotion games to Superettan , the team met Ljungskile SK and made it through to the second division after a 1-1 draw with a 2-0 home win. The newcomer found himself directly in the relegation battle and despite a change of coach - Mats Jingblad took over the position of promotion coach Lars Jacobsson - with one point behind IF Sylvia from Norrköping, the relegation.

As a relegated Ängelholms FF established itself in the top group of Division 2 Södra Götaland . Twice the team missed the return to the second division as runner-up. In the third year only managed fifth place and the club had to tremble because of the upcoming league reform for the place in the new third division. In the relegation round, the team met Myresjö IF and Torslanda IK . After Ängelholms FF and Myresjö IF had both won against Torslanda IK, the two teams were established as third division clubs and the final duel between the two clubs was canceled.

In the new Division 1 Södra, Ängelholms FF found themselves in the no man's land of the table and finished eighth with ten wins and ten losses. In the following season the team was able to dominate the league and led the table unbeaten for a long time. Towards the end of the season, however, they slacked off, but thanks to the excellent first half of the season behind the Gothenburg club Qviding FIF , they were able to celebrate the runner-up and thus their return to the Superettan.
