Mats Jingblad (born August 9, 1958 in Halmstad ) is a former Swedish football player who began a coaching career after his active career. The attacking player, who played ten international matches for the Swedish national team between 1982 and 1984 and scored eight goals, won the Swedish championship title both as a player and as a coach .

Career

Ten years of Allsvenskan

Jingblad began his career at BK Astrio , which he left as a young talent in early 1977 for Halmstads BK . With the reigning champions he came under coach Roy Hodgson in his first season as a supplementary player to five games in the Allsvenskan . In the course of the 1978 season he earned a regular place, despite a good start to the season he placed with the team around Hans Selander , Rutger Backe and Bertil Andersson only eighth in the table. In his third year he was finally in 24 of the 26 season games on the field. With eight goals this season, he was instrumental in winning the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish national champions when IFK Gothenburg was distanced by one point.

Again, after winning the title, the club had a mixed season. Jingblad was still a regular under Hodgson and - when he followed Bob Houghton, who had also previously worked in Sweden, as assistant coach at Bristol City in the summer of 1980 - his successor Rolf Andersson, his five goals of the season only reached eighth place in the table. Under coach Jan Mak he stormed regularly in the 1981 season and was crowned the club's best internal goalscorer with nine goals this season, but alongside Lennart Ljung , Frenk Schinkels and Jan Jönsson , the team manifested its role as a midfield club and drew as the following year as well the last of the eight teams qualified for the championship finals in the play-off games, where they were eliminated in the first round by UEFA Cup winners IFK Göteborg. Nevertheless, he had played his way to the fore in the course of 1982 and had been appointed to the Swedish national team by national coach Lars Arnesson . In the 2-2 draw against the Czechoslovak national team on October 6th that year as part of the qualification for the European Championship 1984 , he came on as a substitute for Jan Svensson and scored his first international goal in the 89th minute with the 1: 2 goal. In the following games, however, he usually had a place on the bench in the national team, only in the course of the 1983 season , in which he advertised himself as a regular goalscorer in the Allsvenskan - his twelve goals this season took him behind Thomas Ahlström to Sören Börjesson shared second place on the list of goalscorers - he also fought for places in the starting line-up of the national team. He managed a hat trick in a friendly against the national team of Trinidad and Tobago when he shone as a goalscorer in the 5-0 victory alongside Sven Dahlkvist and Thomas Sunesson .

While Jingblad played in the league with his club in the 1984 season in the lower midfield and, after the team was temporarily in relegation battle, reached the final round of the championship with her again as eighth in the table, he was again only sporadically used in the national team and was no longer taken into account from the middle of the year. Although the regular player under the now committed Stefan Lundin also decreased his goal quota and after relegation at the end of the 1987 season he left the club after 218 Allsvenskan games and 65 first division to return to BK Astrio. With his hometown club, with which he marched through from the fifth to the third division, he was active until 1991.

As a trainer in Sweden and Greece

In 1992, Jingblad returned to his long-time playing station Halmstads BK to take over the coaching position at the club that had been relegated from the Allsvenskan the previous year. At the end of his first season he rose again with the team and reached fifth place in the table with an offensive style of play. After a seventh place in the following year, he led the team around Håkan Svensson , Niclas Alexandersson , Jesper Mattsson , Freddie Ljungberg and Torbjörn Arvidsson on the one hand in the 1995 season to third place in the table behind series champions IFK Göteborg and Helsingborgs IF and on the other hand in the final for the national cup . With a 3-1 win against AIK , the club won the trophy for the first time and then competed in the 1995/96 European Cup Winners' Cup . In the first round due to the away goals rule against Lokomotive Sofia , the team was on the verge of a sensation in the second round against the Italian representative AC Parma . The first leg, which was played in Gothenburg's Gamla Ullevi due to a strike , won 3-0 with goals from Robert Andersson and two-time goalscorer Niklas Gudmundsson , but in the second leg the club from Parma took the lead after two minutes through Filippo Inzaghi and ultimately sat down with a 4-0 win.

Through his success, Jingblad had aroused the desires of IFK Göteborg, which was looking for a successor to Roger Gustafsson . With the team around players like Magnus Erlingmark , Andreas Andersson , Mikael Nilsson , Teddy Lučić and Jesper Blomqvist , he prevailed with ten points ahead of runner-up Malmö FF and defended last year's title. In the following season he reached the runner-up with the team behind his former club Halmstads BK, before the club slipped into the lower division at the beginning of the 1998 season . As a result, Jingbald resigned from his position, so that the club changed its coach for the first time in its club history during the season.

Jingblad signed a contract with the Greek club Iraklis Thessaloniki , where he inherited the dismissed Kiril Dojčinovski . After a ninth place in the table at the end of the season, he was later replaced by Angelos Anastasiadis . In 2000 he returned to Sweden and took over the coaching position at Örebro SK . Under his leadership, the club initially developed positively and was at times among the top three teams. In the summer of 2001 there were signs of an extension of the cooperation despite the tense economic situation at the club. At the end of September he finally extended his contract. In the summer of 2002, however, he announced his departure at the end of the season and was replaced by Stefan Lundin after the end of the season. He then looked after Ängelholms FF for one season in the second-class Superettan .

In November 2003, Jingblad returned to international football when he was hired again at Iraklis Thessaloniki, replacing the sacked Dutchman Eugen Gerards . Although he reached eighth place in the table with the team around Edvin Murati , Nikolaos Machlas and Marcin Mięciel , his contract, which expired at the end of the season, was not extended. He then returned to Sweden to take over Landskrona BoIS after Jan Jönsson was laid off . He led the team in danger of relegation in the 2004 season to the last non-relegation place, the following season he ended with the club on the relegation place . Against GAIS , the team missed relegation with a 0-0 draw in the second leg after a 2-1 defeat in Gothenburg. He then announced his departure from the club, despite the contract that was still valid. A few days later he announced an engagement with the IFK Norrköping , which played in the Superettan , with which he signed a three-year contract. With a largely changed team, he just missed promotion as fourth in the second division season in 2006 , before he celebrated the second division championship in the following season. In November 2007 he gained further administrative competencies and received two new assistant coaches: Sören Cratz and Sulo Vaattovaara . After five game days of the first division season in 2008 , however, he left his post as head coach and moved up to the head of sports. Under Sören Cratz, who moved up to his successor as coach, the team only won one game, so that Jingblad returned to the dugout in mid-July. Even under his leadership, however, the team around Kevin Amuneke , Thomas Magnusson and Kristoffer Arvhage did not succeed. After only four wins this season, the promoted team ended the season in last place in the table. Two game days before the end of the season, the club therefore announced the separation at the end of the season.

In December 2011, Jingblad's long-time club Halmstads BK signed him as a coach for the U-19 youth team. With a 5-3 final win against the offspring of the Stockholm club Hammarby IF , he won the Swedish Junior Championship with the team in 2012. In November 2013 he joined Hammarby IF as head of sport. Together with coach Nanne Bergstrand , the team, which was now in second class, returned to the Allsvenskan. In March 2017, he resigned from his post for family reasons.
