Jan Mak (born June 21, 1945 ) is a Dutch football coach . In his career so far he has worked both as a club and national team coach.

Career

Mak was active as a player in the Netherlands, Germany and Brazil. From 1973 Randstad Sport , FC Groningen and vv CEC from Emmen first trained before he took over FC Volendam in 1977 . Under coach Leo Steegman , the club was promoted to the Eredivisie . After he had occupied seventh place in the table with the team in the first year, he rose with her in the following year as penultimate table again and was replaced by Henk Ellens .

Meanwhile junior coach at Feyenoord Rotterdam , Mak followed an offer from the Swedish club Halmstads BK in 1981 to join the Allsvenskan . With Frenk Schinkels , who also signed up from the Netherlands , he finished ninth in the table with the team around Mats Jingblad , Jan Jönsson and Rutger Backe in his first season. In the 1982 season , the team reached the championship finals, but failed in the quarter-finals at the eventual champions IFK Göteborg . After the end came in the following season after a sixth place in the regular season this time against AIK in the quarterfinals, he fell out with the club leadership in the spring of 1984 and was replaced by Stefan Lundin in March of that year just before the start of the season .

Mak then stayed in Sweden and in 1985 took over the coaching position at the second division IS Halmia . After one season he returned to the Swedish elite series, in the 1986 season he ended the season with IK Brage as eighth of the table. In 1988 he went to IF Elfsborg in Borås , who had been relegated from Allsvenskan the previous year. Had he led the team to third place in 1989, the ways parted after the end of the following season, which ended for the club in tenth place in the table.

1992 Mak supported the Dutch national team at the European Championships in Sweden . He also coached Norrby IF , Tampereen Pallo-Veikot from Finland and the Lebanese national team for a game .

In 2000 Mak returned to Sweden and hired again at IF Elfsborg, where he was responsible for the club's youth department. In spring 2008 he took over the management of the Seychelles national team as the successor to Raoul Shungu as part of the qualification for the 2010 World Cup . In December 2010, IF Elfsborg, together with Tobias Linderoth and Sanel Duzel, made him the coach of the U-17 youth team.

On July 31, 2012, the Allsvenskan in the relegation battle presented the Gothenburg first division club GAIS Mak as a new coach until the end of the 2012 season after Alexander Axén had resigned from his post a few days earlier . He resigned from his position at the beginning of October because he saw no positive development under his leadership. Under his successor Benjamin Westman , the club rose to the end of the season in the second division.

In early February 2013 Mak returned to the Seychelles, where he again took over the national team. He coached the selection especially during the qualification for the African Nations Cup 2014 , in which they failed in the qualifying round against Mozambique . In September 2019, he returned as the successor to Gavin Jeanne, who had recently been dismissed, as part of a two-month contract to look after the team in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup . After two defeats against Rwanda , in which a total of ten goals were conceded, he missed participation with the national team in the group stage of the African World Cup qualification.
