The FC Emmen ( Football Club Emmen ) is a Dutch football club from the city of Emmen in the Dutch province of Drenthe .
history
The association was founded on August 25, 1925 as Noordbarge Emmen Combinatie (NEC) . On January 20, 1927, the association was renamed voetbalvereniging Emmen (vv Emmen) . When the professional league was introduced in 1954, it was decided to stay in the amateur field. In 1985 they finally switched to paid football and called themselves BVO Emmen (BVO = Betaald Voetbal Organizatie), while the club that remained in amateur football kept the name vv Emmen . The professional football club has been called FC Emmen since 2005 .
After the team had competed in the second-rate Eerste Divisie without interruption since the 1985/86 season, the 2018/19 season saw their first promotion to the Dutch first division.
Stadion
FC Emmen plays its home games at the De Oude Meerdijk stadium . The stadium, which was renovated in 2001, is located in the Meerdijk Sports and Business Park and has a capacity of 8,600 spectators (only seats).
