In 1998, depending on the source, the stadium, which could hold 35,000 or 40,000 spectators, hosted the final of the 1998 African Football Championship . The Burkinabe national team also plays their home games there, as do various clubs in the first division. The highlight of the season is the final of the Burkinabe cup competition every year.
