Étoile Filante de Ouagadougou ( EFO ) is a sports club in Ouagadougou ( Burkina Faso ).

The club's soccer department was able to win the Burkinabe championship twelve times , making it the record holder of the title of the country known as Upper Volta until 1984 . EFO has won the national cup competition, the Coupe du Faso , twenty times , where the club is also a record winner.

history

The association was founded in 1955. The club colors are blue and white. Before the promotion of young talent was structured in the country in recent times, the club's team was mainly recruited from talents from the Dapoya , Paspanga and Koulouba districts of the city of Ouagadougou .

After the country gained independence in 1960, Étoile Filante was the second team ever and the first team from Ouagadougou to enter the list of winners of the national championship in 1962. EFO won the cup for the first time in its third edition in 1963, also as the first club from the capital. Twice, in 1994 and 1996, the club won the Coupe de l'AJSB, which has been played between champions and cup winners since 1992 .

Participation in the Africa Cup

African Cup of National Champions / CAF Champions League

The title of 1965 entitled Les Stel Listes to participate in the newly created Africa Cup , but where in the first round at Stade d'Abidjan in the Ivory Coast failed. 20 years later, EFO took part in the first main round, as the Mauritanian representative AS Ksar Nouakchott had withdrawn. In the first round, the game against JS Kabylie ( Algeria ) followed. In 1989 the club was able to prevail in qualifying against Zumunta AC from Nigeria , but had to admit defeat Espérance Sportive de Tunis in the first main round . 1990-1994 the club was five times in a row Burkinabe champion. In the Africa Cup they failed in 1991 against Union Douala ( Cameroon ), in 1992 against ASEC Mimosas . In 1993 the white-blue benefited again from a withdrawal in the qualification, this time the SC Bissau from Guinea-Bissau waived . In the main round they lost to MC Oran (Algeria), in 1994 and 1995 to Espérance Tunis. In 2002 and 2008, EFO did not get beyond the first main round; where the team was eliminated against FC Enyimba from Nigeria and against ASEC Mimosas from Ivory Coast.

African Cup Winners' Cup

In 1997 they got on in the African Cup Winners' Cup without a fight against Sahel SC Niamey ( Niger ). After a 3-0 win at home, Étoile Filante lost 4-0 away to ES Sahel from Sousse (Tunisia) and was narrowly eliminated. In 2000, FAR Rabat was too big a hurdle.

CAF Cup / CAF Confederation Cup

In 1996 EFO lost to MC Oran, in 1999 the Accra Great Olympics and AS Vita Club were eliminated, but the quarterfinals were over against Canon Yaoundé . In 2003 it failed at Raja Casablanca .

In 2004, the Dynamic Togolais club was able to defeat Lomé , but not Wydad Casablanca . In the 2007 season EFO took part again in the CAF Cup , where they failed after victories against Sahel SC Niamey and US Ouakam in the third round to Mwana Africa from Zimbabwe .
