The Segarra is a Comarca inside the to Spain belonging to the Autonomous Community of Catalonia . Historically, the name Segarra covers a larger area than that of the administrative unit of the same name today .

location

The association of municipalities is located in the center of Catalonia, east of the provincial capital Lleida . It borders in the north on the Comarca Solsonès , in the west on Anoia , in the south on Conca de Barberà and in the east on Urgell . Together with the comarcas Garrigues , Noguera , Urgell, Segrià and Pla d'Urgell , the region forms the Ponent territory .

The comarca is located in the eastern part of the central plateau of Catalonia, at an altitude of 400-550 m. The highest peaks are the Sant Salvador (854 m) in the north and the Tossal de Suró (831 m) in the south. The Segarra lies in the catchment area of the tributaries of the Segre , the rivers Llobregós , Sió and Corb .

climate

The continental climate with cold winters and hot summers is somewhat mitigated by the proximity to the Mediterranean Sea . Low precipitation (between 350 and 450 mm per year) with dry periods in summer characterize the dry climate.

economy

Agriculture (wheat cultivation) and animal husbandry (pigs, poultry) determine the economy. Companies in the food industry are also based in Segarra.
