The Comarca Vallès Occidental is located in the province of Barcelona in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia ( Spain ). The community association has an area of 583 km² and 925,237 inhabitants (2019).

location

The association of municipalities borders in the north on the Comarca Bages , in the east on Vallès Oriental , in the south on Barcelonès and in the west on Baix Llobregat . Together with the comarcas Alt Penedès , Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès, Garraf , Maresme and Vallès Oriental, the region forms the territory of Àmbit Metropolità de Barcelona .

Vallès Occidental is located in the Catalan pre-coastal plain. The rivers Llobregat in the west and Riera de Caldes in the east form a natural border. The Riu Ripoll, a tributary of the Riu Besòs, flows through the community from north to south. In the south, between Vallès Occidental and Barcelona, lies the coastal mountain range, the Serra de Collserola . In the north is the Serra de l'Obac with the highest elevation in the comarca, la Mola (1,104 m). The Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac is also located in this part of the pre-coastal mountains .

climate

Because of its proximity to the coast, the climate is Mediterranean, with dry summer and mild temperatures in summer and winter.

economy

In the densely populated area, agriculture is only of secondary importance. Grain, animal feed, potatoes, fruit, wine, almonds, hazelnuts and olives are grown. The industry, especially the dominant textile industry, is located in the towns of Sabadell and Terrassa. But the metal, chemical and food industries as well as wood construction and the service sector are also important.

The comarca has a well-developed transport network with the AP-7 / E-15 and C-16 / E-9 motorways. Several municipalities are involved in the Barcelona S-Bahn network ( Cercanías ). The Barcelona airport is, but to reach by car with the S-Bahn good.
