  • The Àmbit metropolità de Barcelona is one of seven territories ( àmbits funcionals territorials ) in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia , which was adopted by law in 1995 with the regional plan ( Pla territorial general de Catalunya ).

    The Àmbit metropolità Barcelona (AMB) was defined by the Parliament of Catalonia in 1987. According to this, the territory covers 3,236 km² and has 4,992,193 inhabitants (2009). With 1,523 inhabitants / km², the AMB is one of the 10 most densely populated regions in the European Union . The Àmbit is located on the Mediterranean Sea , around the metropolis of Barcelona , it is heavily industrialized and one of the most important economic zones in Spain .
