The Comarca Maresme is in the province of Barcelona of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia ( Spain ). The community association has an area of ​​398.9 km² and 452,690 inhabitants (2019).

The association of municipalities is located in the south-eastern part of Catalonia, between Barcelona and the Costa Brava . It borders in the northeast on the Comarca Selva , in the north on Vallès Oriental , in the west on Barcelonès and in the south on the 48 km long coast of the Mediterranean . Together with the comarcas Alt Penedès , Baix Llobregat , Barcelonès, Garraf , Vallès Occidental and Vallès Oriental, the region forms the territory of Àmbit Metropolità de Barcelona .

Maresme forms a narrow coastal strip at the foot and the slopes of the Catalan coastal mountains, the Serralada Litoral . The mountain ranges of San Mateu , Corredor and Montnegre . The latter two form a natural park, the Parc Natural del Montnegre i el Corredor . To the east, the Tordera River forms a natural border with the Comarca Selva. Mataró is a city with a long industrial tradition. Companies in the textile, metal, chemical, food and construction industries are located in the region. Agriculture is of rather minor importance. Vegetables and flowers are grown. Tourism in the coastal communities has made the service sector an important source of income.
