The Silvia Ana L was at the time of its construction the second largest monohull high speed ferry in the world. At this point in time, its builder had not yet delivered a larger monohull made of aluminum.

history

The ship was built in 1996 under the hull number 327 at the Spanish shipyard Bazans Fernando Shipyard for the Argentine company Los Cipreses SA. The keel was laid on February 22nd, the launch on July 2nd, 1996. The ship was owned by Boeing Capital Leasing Limited.

The ship was initially used by Buquebus on the Río de la Plata between Buenos Aires , Argentina, and Piriápolis , Uruguay , from the end of 1996 . At the beginning of 1997 it was converted at the shipyard for use by the Norwegian shipping company Color Line .

Color Line used the ship in the summer months together with the Christian IV in the Skagerrak between Hirtshals , Denmark , and Kristiansand , Norway . The trip only took 2½ hours. The rest of the time, the fast ferry operated on the Río de la Plata until April 2000.

Between April 2000 and October 2007 the ship was used in the summer months on the route between Denmark and Norway; the ship was laid up in winter . In 2005 Color Line bought the ship.

The ship was sold to Los Cipreses SA in November 2007 for US $ 16 million and has been operating again for the Buquebus shipping company since December 20, 2007, initially between the two capitals of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo , Uruguay, then between Buenos Aires and Colonia del Sacramento .
