The Mega Smeralda is a 1985 built ferry of the Italian shipping company Corsica Ferries .

She was built in 1985 under the name Svea at what was then Wärtsilä shipyard in Helsinki, Finland.

history

Use at Silja Line

The ship was on 28 September 1984 from the stack and was the name Svea baptized . After completion in May 1985, the ferry was delivered on May 7th to the Johnson Line based in Stockholm and used for the Silja Line on the route from Stockholm via Mariehamn to Turku . In the course of a structural reorganization of the Silja Line in 1992, the ship was also extensively rebuilt and was now given the name Silja Carnival , under which it continued its traditional route. On March 30, 1994, the ship ended its service on the Stockholm - Turku route:

Use at Color Line

The Color Festival arriving in Hirtshals

On April 6, 1994 the Silja Carnival was sold to the Norwegian shipping company Color Line . The ship was renamed Color Festival on April 28, 1994 and was used between Oslo and Hirtshals on April 29, 1994 .

On February 22, 2002 the ship collided with a breakwater in the port of Hirtshals, was then repaired at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg and resumed service on March 7, 2003. From December 15, 2004 to January 26, 2005, the ship was rebuilt at Remontowa in Danzig and from January 28, 2005 it was used again between Oslo and Hirtshals. On April 2, 2006, the ship was withdrawn from the Oslo - Hirtshals route. From April 7, 2006, the Color Festival operated the route between Frederikshavn ( Denmark ) and Oslo ( Norway ). The journey time was 8½ hours during the day from Denmark to Norway and vice versa 12½ hours overnight. On November 21, 2007, the ship was sold to Medinvest ( Corsica Ferries ) with delivery in January 2008. On January 6, 2008, the ship sailed the last time the Oslo - Frederikshavn route and was in Frederikshavn from January 11. The route Frederikshavn - Oslo of the Color Line has been discontinued; instead, from January 8, 2008, the Prinsesse Ragnhild sailed the new route Hirtshals - Oslo.

Use at Medinvest

On January 17, 2008 the ship was handed over to Medinvest in Frederikshavn and renamed Mega Smeralda . She started sailing under the Italian flag with her home port of Genoa. on January 31, 2008 the ship arrived in Perama , Greece for conversion. From June 13, 2008 the Mega Smeralda was used on the route Civitavecchia / Livorno - Bastia / Golfo Aranci. The ship has been sailing between Toulon and Corsica since November 2008.

The Mega Smeralda has a sister ship , as Wellamo built mega Andrea .

Furnishing

In addition to 830 cabins, there are five restaurants , an internet café , three night clubs , two bars , an on-board shop, a swimming pool and various conference rooms on board .

The Mega Smeralda is 168 meters long, 27.60 meters wide and has a draft of 6.70 meters. With an engine output of 26,200 kW, it reaches a top speed of 22  knots . As a combined car and passenger ferry, it offers space for around 2,000 passengers and around 400 cars.
