history

Crown Prince Harald (1987-2007)

The ship as Crown Prince Harald

The Crown Prince Harald was built near Wärtsilä in Turku. The launch took place on August 31, 1986. On March 23, 1987 the ship was delivered to the Jahre Line and started sailing under the Norwegian flag with her home port Sandefjord. On the same day the ship was christened in Oslo. On March 26, 1987, she was put into service on the Kiel - Oslo route . This made her the successor to Crown Prince Harald in 1976 . Until 2004 she operated the route together with the Prinsesse Ragnhild , before it was replaced by Color Fantasy on December 10, 2004 .

In October 1990, Years Line and Norway Line merged to form the Color Line, which also brought Kronprins Harald to the Color Line. At the same time, the home port was changed from Sandefjord to Oslo .

Only one week after a fire on the Prinsesse Ragnhild , the Crown Prince Harald ran aground in the Oslofjord on July 15, 1999 with around 1400 people on board on the voyage from Oslo to Kiel . Since there was only a slight grounding, the ferry was able to free itself and call at the Norwegian port of Moss , where all passengers were brought ashore unharmed. The ship was brought to Emden for inspection and repaired at the Nordseewerke shipyard . After the accident on both ships, ferry traffic between Kiel and Oslo was interrupted for the first time since 1961. On July 20, 1999, the Crown Prince Harald resumed operations.

In January 2007 the ship was sold to the Irish Continental Group for 43.6 million euros. In February it was transferred to the new owner, but initially chartered the Color Line on the Kiel - Oslo route. With the departure on August 31, 2007 from the Kiel Norway quay, Crown Prince Harald sailed the route for the last time. In September 2007 it was replaced by the new Color Magic building .

Oscar Wilde (2007-2019)

On September 10, 2007, the ship was sold to Irish Continental Line Ltd. passed, renamed Oscar Wilde and started sailing under the flag of the Bahamas with home port Nassau. From November 30, 2007, the ship operated for Irish Ferries on the routes Rosslare - Roscoff and Rosslare - Cherbourg between Ireland and France . In early 2012 and 2013 the ship operated temporarily between Rosslare and Pembroke Dock. In November 2013 the ship switched to the Dublin - Holyhead route; From 2014 to 2019 the Oscar Wilde operated on the Rosslare - Roscoff and Rosslare - Cherbourg routes. In April 2019, Irish Continental Group announced the sale of the ship to Mediterranean Shipping Company with handover in the same month. From the end of April 2019 she sailed under the flag of Cyprus.

GNV Allegra (since 2019)

In May 2019 the ship was renamed GNV Allegra and started sailing under the flag of Italy . She drives for Grandi Navi Veloci on the Genoa - Olbia route .
