The Color Fantasy is a ferry of the Norwegian shipping company Color Line . It is marketed by the shipping company as a "cruise ship with car deck", but is operated as a car ferry by the Det Norske Veritas classification society .
The Color Fantasy was measured at around 75,000 GT , making it one of the largest ships of its kind. She is the sister ship of the Color Magic .
history
Construction and commissioning
On December 16, 2002 the shipping company Color Line and the Finnish shipyard Kværner Masa Yards AB signed the contract for the construction of a new ferry. The keel of construction number 1351 was laid on June 6, 2003 in Turku . Like almost all contemporary new ships, the Color Fantasy was also created in sectional construction . The hull and superstructure are assembled as individual assemblies in the dock. After undocking ( launching ) on April 30, 2004 and completion, the ship went on a test drive for the first time on September 20, 2004. On December 3, 2004 the handover to the owner Color Line Cruises AS took place. The construction costs were given as around 290 million euros.
On December 5, 2004, Color Fantasy left Turku and reached Kiel for the first time in the night of December 7 , to carry out test mooring maneuvers at the new Norwegian quay. Immediately afterwards, the ship set course for Oslo , where it arrived on December 8th.
On December 10, 2004, the Color Fantasy was christened by Anne Sidsel Sunde, wife of the owner Olav Nils Sunde, in Oslo and shortly afterwards set out on the official maiden voyage to Kiel, where it arrived 1.5 hours late.
commitment
The Color Fantasy , certified with ice class 1B (average ice conditions, ice thickness up to 0.6 meters), operates ferry services between Kiel and the Norwegian capital, Oslo ; together with Color Magic , there are daily departures. During their 20-hour crossing, the two ships always meet at night east of the Danish island of Anholt . The ship replaced the Prinsesse Ragnhild on this route .
Only in April of each year is there a departure every two days because the Color Fantasy and the sister ship Color Magic are transferred for ten days for annual maintenance at Blohm + Voss in Hamburg or at Lindøværft in Odense . Transfer trips to Hamburg take place directly to and from Oslo, as the ship is too big to pass through the Kiel Canal .
From January 6th to January 30th 2015, scrubbers were installed on the ship in Odense at Fayard . Since the Color Magic was also rebuilt from January 18, 2015, the Kiel - Oslo route was completely suspended from January 18 to 31, 2015.
Furnishing
The Color Fantasy has a total height of 60.3 meters and is divided into 15 decks. The ferry has 2,667 beds in 966 cabins of different categories and is approved for 2,750 passengers. It offers parking spaces for 750 cars and 1,700 loading meters for trucks and buses. The entertainment character, recognizable by equipment details such as 10 restaurants, show theater, aqua bathing area and conference deck, is very pronounced compared to other ferries.
Trivia
- In 2005, the Color Fantasy was rated “very good” in a test by the ADAC .
- Since April 2012, Color Fantasy has been supplied with so-called " shore power " during its stay in Oslo . Shutting down the on-board generators will reduce CO 2 emissions by around 3,000 tons per year, according to the shipping company. A shore power system in Kiel has also been in use since 2019.
