Serra San Bruno is a town of 6549 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Italian province of Vibo Valentia in the Calabria region .

The place is about 36 km southeast of Vibo Valentia at the foot of Monte Pecoraro (1423 meters). The area of ​​the municipality is 870 m above sea level. d. M. and covers 39 km² .

The neighboring communities are Arena , Gerocarne , Mongiana , Spadola and Stilo ( RC ).

economy

The population lives from the mining and processing of granite , from forestry in the large surrounding forest region (typical deciduous forest with large numbers of fungi) and wood processing. In Serra San Bruno and the surrounding area, large quantities of charcoal are produced using traditional methods.

Attractions

The place is best known for the Santo Stefano Charterhouse , which was built at the end of the 11th century. In the historic city center is the baroque church Chiesa dell'Addolorata , in the interior of which there are numerous works of art from the Charterhouse. Many houses in the village are equipped with ornate portals and forge works, a tradition that goes back to the Carthusian monks.
