Sant'Onofrio is a southern Italian municipality with 2973 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Vibo Valentia in Calabria . The municipality is located about 8 kilometers northeast of Vibo Valentia .

history

Sant'Onofrio can trace the name back to the hermit Onophrios the Great . Originally the settlement goes back to a monastic foundation. The place is in the sphere of influence of the Calabrian Mafia ( 'Ndrangheta ), in 2009 the municipal council was dissolved by order of the mafia infiltration.
