Zambrone is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1774 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Vibo Valentia in Calabria . The municipality is located about kilometers from Vibo Valentia on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea ( Capo Cozzo ).

history

The community has its origins around the period between 1300 and 1310. However, a necropolis from the 9th century BC is from the Iron Age . BC, which proves that the place was settled earlier. Around two kilometers from the center of Zambrone, at Cape Punta di Zambrone , a Bronze Age settlement was discovered that was intensively researched from 2011 to 2013.

traffic

Zambrone train station is on the (branch) railway line from Rosarno to Eccellente. The former Strada Statale 522 di Tropea (now a provincial road) runs through the municipality from Tropea along the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
