Heinrich von Stephan Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Heinrich von Stephan Foundation was established by the Deutsche Bundespost on April 25, 1947 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the death of Postmaster General Heinrich von Stephan († April 8, 1897 ) . In 1971 it was merged with the Dr. Karl Sautter Foundation to form the Deutsche Bundespost Study Foundation .

purpose

The purpose of the foundation was to make it easier for the children of postal workers to study at a technical university in the Federal Republic, including the TU Berlin in Berlin-Charlottenburg, through grants ( scholarships ) . The purpose of the foundation was served by the income from the foundation's assets, which amounted to:

  • 1953: 100,000 DM (would correspond to 260,154 euros today )
  • 1956: 200,000 DM (would correspond to 497,160 euros today).

A board of trustees set up at the Federal Post Office decided on the granting of study grants. In 1953 these were distributed once a year for the winter semester to "the most worthy and needy sons and daughters of civil servants, waiting and retirement officials, employees and workers of the Deutsche Bundespost and the Landespostdirektion Berlin " .

  • In 1951 48 study grants totaling 7,750 DM were granted, an average of 161.45 DM per person, which today would correspond to 421.55 euros.
  • In 1955, 54 study grants totaling 9,650 DM could be granted, an average of 178.70 DM per person, which today would correspond to 466.59 euros.
