Disasters

  • 1906 : At the height of the heaviest eruption of Vesuvius since 1631, which has lasted since April 4, ashes are hurled up to a height of 1,300 m. The top of the mountain is cut and it loses over 200 m in height. More than 100 people were killed in the volcanic eruption , which lasted until April 22nd.
  • 1961 : On the British passenger ship Dara , which is on the way to Basra , there is a violent explosion, as a result of which a fire breaks out on board. 238 people died as a result of the detonation, the fire or during the evacuation. The ship sinks two days later in the Persian Gulf not far from Dubai .
