Life
Georg Ludwig Spalding was the son of the Protestant theologian Johann Joachim Spalding and his first wife Wilhelmine Gebhardi; the later lawyer Karl August Wilhelm Spalding was his brother.

He later moved to the University of Halle . Spalding successfully completed his studies in 1787 with a dissertation. From 1798 onwards, Quintilian's works were revised by Spalding (4 volumes), which were later continued by Karl Gottlob Zumpt (volume 5) and Eduard Bonnell (volume 6). He was a corresponding member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . Spalding died at the age of 49.
