Johann Georg Tralles
Johann Georg Tralles (born October 15, 1763 in Hamburg , † November 19, 1822 in London ) was a mathematician and physicist .
Tralles studied from 1783 at the University of Göttingen and in 1785 became professor of mathematics and physics at the academy in Bern . Wernhard Huber helped him to become an honorary citizen of Bern.
Tralles had been a member of the Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences since 1804 and in 1810 became professor of mathematics at the newly founded University of Berlin . Since 1820 he was a foreign member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
He dealt with the determination of the density of liquids with hydrometers and wrote " Investigations on the specific weights of mixtures of alcohol and water " (Leipzig 1812).
The moon crater Tralles is named after him.
