NGC 3412 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 and lies in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 33 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3377 , NGC 3391 , NGC 3419 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 8, 1784 .
