NGC 3417 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S and the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 286 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3388 , NGC 3427 , NGC 3436 , NGC 3439 .
The object was discovered by Albert Marth on March 25, 1865 .
