NGC 3402 = NGC 3411 is a cD galaxy of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 197 million light years from the Milky Way and about 125,000 light years across. 
The galaxies NGC 3421 , NGC 3422 , IC 647 , IC 650 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by William Herschel on March 25, 1786 ( NGC 3411 ) and rediscovered by Andrew Ainslie Common in 1880 ( NGC 3402 ).
