IC 647 is an elliptical  dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Hydra south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 191 million light years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light years across . 
The galaxies NGC 3402 , NGC 3404 , NGC 3421 , NGC 3422 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on April 21, 1892 .
