IC 656 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sab with three optically adjacent stars in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 1,144 million light years from the Milky Way .

The object was discovered on March 15, 1887 by Guillaume Bigourdan .
