Basel Chronicles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Basler Chroniken is the name of a series of publications published by the Historical and Antiquarian Society of Basel . Volumes 1 to 7 were published from 1872 to 1915 in Leipzig by S. Hirzel Verlag , which also published The Chronicles of German Cities . From 1945 the publishing house of the source work was the Basler Schwabe Verlag . The last volume 12 was published in 2009.

The Basler Chronik (Baßler-Chronick) by Christian Wurstisen (1580) and its continuation by Daniel Bruckner (1765–1769), as well as the Kurtze Baßler Chronick by Johann (Georg) Gross, are not part of this publication series . The annual Basel Chronicle , which has been kept in the Basel City Book since 1882, is also an independent work.

history

In 1870 the Historical and Antiquarian Society of Basel decided to publish a collection of historical sources from Basel . The impetus for this was provided by The Chronicles of German Cities and the discovery of the Basel Carthusian Chronicle by Alfred Stern. The driving force was the president of the society, Wilhelm Vischer . The society formed a committee made up of Daniel Albert Fechter , Hans Frey, Andreas Heusler , Rudolf Liechtenhan, JJ Merian and Vischer. The program of the collection was largely determined at the beginning and a volume of four to five volumes was planned.

In terms of the formal structure of the volumes, Vischer was guided by the work of the Munich Historical Commission .

The 12 volumes published so far and the links to their digital copies can be found in the entry on Wikisource.
