Daniel Albert Fechter

Daniel Albert Fechter (born May 8, 1805 in Basel ; † April 1, 1876 ​​there ; entitled to live in Basel) was a Reformed Swiss theologian , educator and historian .

life and work

Fechter, son of a shoemaker, studied theology at the University of Basel and then worked from 1824 to 1876 as a teacher of Greek and Latin at the humanistic grammar school and from 1841 also at the pedagogy in Basel. From 1857 to 1876 he was also vice principal of the grammar school.

In addition to his teaching activities, Fechter carried out historical research, particularly on the history of Basel. At times he was editor of the Basler Taschenbuch . For the collection of the older federal farewells he was in charge of those volumes that covered the periods 1618–1648 and 1712–1743. He also edited the autobiographies of Thomas Platter the Elder , Felix Platter and Andreas Ryff .
