IC 657 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sa with an active galaxy core in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 426 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 155,000 light years in diameter .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 18, 1893 .
