NGC 3398 = IC 644 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 131 million light years from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 17, 1789 .
