IC 653 is a lenticular galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 241 million light years from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy IC 655 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on April 10, 1893 by Stéphane Javelle .
