NGC 3431 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sb in the constellation cup at the southern sky . It is an estimated 227 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 3459 .
The property was discovered by Francis Preserved Leavenworth on January 5, 1887 .
