NGC 3450 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Water Snake south of the celestial equator . It is around 172 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 140,000 light years .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2005as was observed here.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on March 22, 1835 .
