NGC 3462 is a Lenticular Galaxy of the Hubble-type S0 and the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 283 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 145,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3436 , NGC 3441 , IC 658 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2012cy was observed here.
The object was discovered by William Herschel on January 23, 1784 .
