NGC 3470 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sab with active galactic nucleus in the constellation Ursa Major at the northern sky . It is an estimated 296 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 33043 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair KPG 259 .
The object was discovered on April 9, 1793 by Wilhelm Herschel .
