NGC 3471 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sa with extensive star formation in the constellation Ursa Major at the northern sky . It is estimated to be 98 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 33071 it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on November 28, 1801 .
