NGC 3447 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBdm / P in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 44 million light years from the Milky Way and about 55,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 32700 it forms a bound galaxy pair and together with NGC 3457 , PGC 32826 and PGC 32747 the NGC 3447 group ( LGG 225 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3443 , NGC 3454 , NGC 3455 , NGC 3457 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 2012ht was observed here.
The object was discovered on March 18, 1836 by the astronomer John Herschel using his 18.7-inch mirror telescope.
