Antonio Petrini (born December 4, 1631 in Caneggio , † April 8, 1701 in Würzburg ) was a Franconian master builder of Italian descent. Petrini combined Italian Baroque with German Renaissance and introduced the Franconian Baroque .

biography

For a long time it was assumed that Petrini was born in Trient / Calavino (Lasino) in 1621 . According to Ursula Stevens, however, he came from Ticino, born on December 4, 1631 in Caneggio . He belonged to a group of Italian builders who re-fortified cities and built churches and palaces. In his creative days Petrini, who is rooted in the Lombard building culture, worked on the building of many churches and for baroque architecture (e.g. by Balthasar Neumann ) pioneering secular buildings in Würzburg, where he came in 1660 (called from Mainz by Prince Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn in 1660), Franconia, Mainz and beyond with. His house with decorated corner bay window in Würzburg was destroyed in World War II.
