Community merger

On April 20, 2008, the merger of the municipalities of Bruzella , Cabbio , Caneggio, Morbio Superiore , Muggio and Sagno to form the municipality of Breggia was announced. The municipality of Muggio rejected this merger. However, it was ordered by the Grand Council of the Canton of Ticino, which is why Muggio filed a complaint with the federal court. After the defeat in federal court, the merger took place on October 25, 2009.
